ESG – Environmental, social and corporate governance

Sustainable development

Sustainable development is a key term that represents the new way of doing business. It has three main aspects:

  • environmental sustainability;
  • social sustainability;
  • economic sustainability.

An organisation that pursues sustainable development alongside profit must take an integrated approach to all three aspects.

Business can drive the transition to sustainability.

Virtuous companies are showing a need to include ESG (environmental, social and governance) themes in their strategic planning and a tendency to provide non-financial information, in addition to traditional financing reporting, which must be supplemented in view of the provisions of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.

The monitoring of ESG factors and reporting of non-financial information offer some advantages:

  • improving the company’s reputation and the interest of its stakeholders;
  • being a part of supply chains governed by parent companies with a focus on ESG, above all with regard to sustainable supply chains;
  • monitoring and managing risks of a non-financial nature.
